90 Sivanandha Colony

What is your greatest possession in your life?
Do you beleive that its your house or car or your
jewellery? Is it your collection of fine stamps or
rare coins?
Possessing any or all these things can improve the
quality of your life. But could any of them truly be
called your greatest possession.
May be its your sense of humour or your charm.
May be its the well tuned ear of the music lover or the
tonque of a goumet. May be its some talent you have
that makes you unique.
These are possessions too. And although any of
them can help to define who we are, can any of them
truly be called our greatest possession.
It would certainly be difficult to get people to
agree on any one thing or quality that all people would
consider to be their greatest possession. Whether we
were raised in a big city or small town or on a farm or
in the mountains isolated from society would all play a
major role in determining our concept of what is our
greatest possession.
We may possess great riches but, if we become
seriously ill we realise that good health is more
valuable than wealth.
If you lose your mental well being then all the
riches in the world becomes meaninless.
So health and mental well being are certainly
universally recognised as great possessions. But even
underlying these two is something more basic. It is
something we take with us everywhere we go. It is
something we can lose or sacrifice, it is something we
can waste or give away. It is also something that we
can make great use of and take great care of.
Ultimately, it is our greatest possession.
Its our Life.
A man and woman united in wedlock and in their
love for each other have lived a beautiful life.
That is 90 Sivanandha Colony.

Roaming , roaming and more roaming ...

So , I have finally understood the term 'living out of a suitcase' because last week we had to drive six hours to Scotland and from there board a 2-hour ferry and then reach Ireland on Monday .We stayed there till Friday and then came back by flight to Derby and then one hour later got in the car again and drove 1 and a half hours to reach Dudley , where we stayed for the weekend. The reason for all this roaming around is that Dad had work in all these places and so Nandhika and I were free to order room service , jump into the pool and go shopping ! The highlight of the week was probably going go-karting which was loads of fun , I was much faster than dad and kept screeching around the race-track but in my over-confident excitement , when I finally crashed the car , I was told politely but firmly to show my racing skills elsewhere - oh well , in everyone's life some rain must fall !

Now we are back in Derby , it's a bit boring when Dad goes to work so Nan and I keep ourselves occupied by fighting(a very good pastime)... and by the way tommorow is my b'day and so for all of you unable to make it to Derby tomorrow - don't worry , your presents can surely be sent speedily by air mail ! =]

Why 90SC is a success

Undoubtedly 90SC is a great success. Let us analyse
why. In the Cosmic dance Shiva is a silent spectator.
It is Shakthi's show all the way.
I watched a programme in National Geographic.
It was about a pride of Lions. Generally the
males in the pride, the young ones leave. The females
stay as one family. Are we any different?
90SC was, is and will be a huge
success as it always had a majority of women.
For example can anybody say that Dr. Arumugam
is a part of 90SC?
So what I say is when Sindhu and Haru get married
we will have our kerchiefs covering our face only
to hide our smiles. Real tears we will shed when
Sajjith gets married. Nature has a way of
balancing things out.

INDOOR PLANTS

Dear Kappu,
Your dumb cane requires more sun shine. Keep it near South facing window if the day is very bright. Remove the brown edged leaves from the bottom.Add a amall quantity of Nitrogen. If the water is excess, drain it off. Plunge in some rubber tubes in the soil for good aeration to roots. (Both for dumb cane and Caladium)The top of the rubber tubes would be above the ground.
Caladium---Remove the lower leaves. Just add enough water, Bright light would help the plants grow faster. If you have any fertilizers add little to the plant.

its teenage cricket time,

this blog has its uses.
last week sajit wanted to join a cricket coaching camp.
armed with just a few details [ pearls of wisdom from his mouth] i accompanied him to meet the coach and enroll him.
the coach was late ,so i tried to get some details from the attender. why questions like what time does the coaching start, are there also bigger boys enrolled and how to enroll should embaress a teenager is beyond my scope of understanding.
while waiting for the coach he was struck by the dilemna of appearing coooool!!!!!!!
how can u do it with a mother with uncombed hair at 6 am in the morning. so i helped him out by walking on the road behind so he could pretend he had no connection to me.
on comes a man, i at once try to judge is he the coach , acutely embaress sajit, who says why dont u continue walking.
the only time he smiled was when i said wait till i put this on the blog.
anything related to family that can make a teenager smile has to be fantastic . dont u agree!!!!

a happy thought struck me. our words are stored in space for ever on this blog. maybe down the years our grandchildren who we may or may not meet, and who probably wont remember us will be able to read our words and thus bridge the divide.

yes, age is catching up, i read the obituary columns regularly and occasionally indulge in sentimental thoughts.

meeting unexpected people and not meeting those you had expected to meet

Am on leave as I am looking after Shobha, Valli - Shobha's carer is in Chennai to spend some time with her kids. Was expecting my mum (Charu chitti to you ) to travel tomorrow to Manchester to give me support. With the Icelandic Volcano her travel dates has been postponed by a fortnight. (I personally think the Icelandic people have started this on purpose as the rest of the world did not give a damn when they suffering very badly with the credit crunch).

I was at a meeting yesterday in Manchester to celebrate Tamil New Year's day. Met GG's sister-in-law there. Met a few other people from my medical school who I had not seen in twenty five years.

It's Anya's birthday tomorrow, she is 15 tomorrow. She is having a party this Sunday at a restaurant called HELLFIRE ... look up the web site it will give you an idea. Apparently you get dressed up as Zombie's and witches etc. I wanted to be there as a Ghost figure, but she does not want me there, she only wants me to pay the bill.

And there is one other thing, I am jumping off a plane on 9th May. Raising money for MS Society.

'Super Seniors"

Dear all,

When I started writing about 90SC I decided to touch each and everybody.

Here the "Super Seniors".

Our grandfathers and grandmothers were all blessed with long life.

Their lives ranged from 60 to 90+. Can anybody tell who lived the longest?

Is it Ranjithakka ammachi or Subramaniam thatha(father of Thiagu mama)

Anna nagar thatha and ammacchi were very lovable people.

Rajakka ammachi and Palanisamy thatha had brought me up as a kid at Aruvankadu.

Palanisamy thatha's eyes were donated after he died.

Thangakka ammachi had business in her genes. You usually see youngsters

slip out of marriage halls to have a fag. Subramaniam thatha did that even after 85 to

my great amusement.

Coimbatore thatha was very happy with his prayers and to do whatever his granddaughters

asked him to do.

Ranjitakka ammachi was the matriarch. As she entered the last days of her life she was

reduced to bones and skin. Even then her mind was ticking perfectly. There is a custom

in our families to drape the corpse in a saree. She said that she did not want the saree.

My grand son in UK Dr. Nambi will come to see me off. Whatever he wears put it over me.

She died that evening. Next day I was there when the trolley was pushed inside with the

light green T shirt that Nambi was wearing over her.

Kappu's influential frustration

Dear Kappu,

Your experience with Mullu mama is not new to those who have experienced. This exactly happened when one of my friend wanted recommendation from E.minister. Mama asked them to come early morning. So they went with all their papers. He first took them to Dr.Avvai Natarajan, in Anna Nagar. There they were waiting for Dr.Avvai to return from Walk. Then they realized that mama left his cell phone there and went there to collect it. OK! then mama took them to some places where he has to give something to press. Finally they reached the Ministers house and found out that the Minister is out of station. Hope Kappu you understand the procedure.--------

Now news from Lalli Aunty. Weather is just fine. Flowers are blooming. I have attached photos of my front yard with Azaleas. I have started my garden work. I have planted Tomatoes, Pepper, Egg plants and some flowers. I have also attached a birth day party I recently attended. Also another Photo of our ladies only party, the last one is the recent welcome given to me by the company. The mississippi state mayor is with me.----Expecting Gouthams visit to USA. Chelvi is expecting her father by July for baby sitting. Aunty might come to India by August and may be my son Dr.Chelva would also visit India at that time. I am anxiously waiting to meet all of you.

These are a few of the things Ive been doing

Yes, as Kap points out we all have been rather lazy about updating the blog. Though we all like to log in and snicker at other people's witticisms. Aunty, where's the rest of the post? So here's an update from my end:

1) Sindhu has left for Hyderabad - on her own! which shocks most people but if she is capable enough to manage other people, she should be capable of managing her own affairs.. to join Infosys as trainee manager. Anyway she is making the journey in 3 stages - cbe/chennai/hydrebad and at each stage she gets loaded with more things.. to be offloaded for GG!

And since she spent a month here -cooking exotic dishes which involved lots of butter, eggs and cheese I think the following idea which I read on the internet is great for me and the rest of this group.

Each of us puts in Rs.100 or whatever into a kitty and the person who loses most weight within say 2 months gets the jackpot. WHO IS GAME? you have to actually pay in the money first. WE can leave out Chendi, and Selvi and Selva who are all great looking already and Ravi and Aunty who have lost a great deal of weight...?

2) Last week we sponsored lunch at the local school. This I do every year in memory of Amma on March 8 but this year it only happened on April 8.

3) The main ongoing project right now here is the rivetment wall

4) Right now Goutham is here with some Malyasian guests. Too busy to blog. Its eye opening to hear him do the hard sell.

5) What are all the missing people doing? Kalai, Ravi and kids , Karthy..missing after she left india, surya, uthra, Babu and the rest?
Chendi , when he does contribute really perks everyone up:-)

too slow,

every body is busy with relaxing during hols i think. blog is too slow.
past 4 days i have been going out with mulu mama on some personal work and getting a ataste of old madras life. sarcastic comments, meeting people who have no connection to the person we actually need to meet, just missing the person we really have to meeet, dropping and picking.it reminds me of old times and the other side of life.

As I had already told you I was pulled up by Periyamma for not bringing my friends to

90 SC. It was our cricket team. We had won the Salem division and had come to meet PSG

at PSG. Usually when there are girls in the family then friends are unwelcome. But we are

anything but usual, aren't we? But I wanted to be a bit cautious. I called Kallu and told her

that Sunil our fast bowler , a six footer , half jewish had plenty of girl friends.

So the next day we had good food and were relaxing in the verandah.

This Kallu loose No walks staight to Sunil and asks "You, Ladykiller?"

That guy looked back in her eye and said"Yep".

Later Kallu tells me "How dare he says Yes".

She No, reserves No the right to ask stupid questions No, but will not No

accept No the answer it deserves. Unfair No.

Creative Minds Need Clutter

Sindhu making herself at home at home.

Board Exams - O.V.E.R

hello everyone ,

soo , it's been about 2 weeks since the exams got over , and much to the dismay of H.W.Longfellow i have not been 'up and doing , with a heart for any fate' and i have certainly not been 'in the broad field of battle, in the biovuac of life,a hero in the strife' because i have spent the last 2 weeks in a state of hibernation , emerging once a day to assure the family that i am still alive.i mean , the feeling of relief overwhelms you =)it's all in the simple things like wearing matching pyjamas and having the time to watch two movies continuously , yep it's true - i watched TVP morning show and drove sraight over to Central Cinemas to watch avatar -afternoon show !!

anyway, after a nice weekend break with anandhi athai in chennai =} , i'm back home and packing to go to england , hopefully i will do something apart from sleep and watch movies there .!
